Write in Candidate Gary Torressen Says .........
The town of Moltonborough has many challenges ahead as we face uncertain times. Some challenges are beyond our control, but many are within our ability to affect and change in positive ways. I believe that government needs to live within it’s means, and has a responsibility to be accountable to the people it serves. With the cost of living increasing dramatically due to higher fuel costs and increases in state and federal tax’s. There are many people in our town that are struggling just to make ends meet and provide for their family and save for their future. Local government has an obligation to control spending while meeting the needs of the community. I have the experience needed to help lead our town through these times. When we face challenges together as a community and neighbors we will succeed.
The resounding theme and issues that I hear from residents, is the need to control spending, control growth, keep tax’s low, encourage and help small businesses while preserving the towns character and natural beauty. Our highest priorities should be to maintain excellence in our schools, police, fire and municipal services along with our towns roads and infrastructure. These priorities can all be achieved while ensuring we are not placing a high tax burden on the very people government is there to serve and protect. It does not make any sense to have a capital building project that could hurt financially, the very people it is trying to help by increasing their tax‘s. It would be a sad day for our town if we place our wants above our needs and our neighbors and friends lose their homes because they can no longer afford it! We have what we need in this town to provide activities for our children and senior residents. Let’s be resourceful and utilize all the space we currently have. If elected, I will make sure that we seek innovative ideas and look for cost effective ways to address real needs and concerns. I also want to look for ways to encourage small businesses to come Moultonborough as a great place to be and grow. This will help provide more local jobs and help our local economy. Last but not least encourage and engage our towns greatest asset, it’s people. I will encourage the spirit of voluntarism. Through volunteer initiatives and projects we can achieve and accomplish great things.
I also support SB2 as this is the fairest form of democracy. It allows all voters to have a say in their town government. Elected officials need to trust the voter and the decisions made at the ballot box. Fear and speculation are not good reasons to reject SB2. Our nation’s foundation is built upon the right to vote. People should no longer be denied that right. I will be a selectman that is approachable and willing to listen to everyone.
