Moultonboro has three remarkable write-in candidates

To the Editor: Three high quality people have answered the challenge! Moultonboro Moderator Mel Borrin presented a challenge of sorts, while at the same time condemning those that vote "behind the voting booth curtain," that those who truly care about their town should run for office. We have heard similar words of admonishment from the two incumbent selectmen. Their take is (or has been since the filing dead line has closed for town offices) that "we don't need SB2…you elect us and we represent you" is how the chairman puts it, I believe. Well when it comes to the flip flop that they pulled off this month with respect to the Recreation Center issue, this observer, for one, cannot rely on them to "represent me" anymore. | |||
| With the incumbents flip-flopping faster than John Kerry, and admonishments coming from them and the present moderator regarding SB2 (and who should be allowed to vote), and their apparent lack of respect for the electorate, they have challenged the voters of Moultonboro to step up to the plate and run for their seats, or just "trust us… we'll represent you as we wish." So with all that said, our selectmen and moderator now have a challenge. Three very well spoken, qualified and courageous men have stepped forward to offer the town of Moultonboro a fresh new look at how to do the town's business. They have pledged a transparent local government. They are unified in the simple principles of respect for the citizens and taxpayers, and the protection of voter's rights. They consider the vote by all eligible voters to be the voice of the community. They do not offer the opinion that you shouldn't vote if you are not able to physically be at the town or school district meeting. They will be working hard for all to be able to vote for all warrant articles. These men that I speak of are Gary Torressen and Al Hume who are running for selectmen, and Jim Castleberry who is running for moderator. The amazing coming together of these three dedicated individuals was a process that extended beyond that aforementioned filing deadline. So you will not see their names on the ballot; you will have to take the effort and write them in. Trust me; it will be an endeavor that will be well worth the effort. Gary has served his town in Concord as our state representative for two terms; Al has spearheaded the effort to bring Moultonboro in line with more than half of New Hampshire's population in allowing all voters to have a say in their government with SB2; Jim is a focused individual that knows Roberts Rules of Order and their place in moderating a meeting. He will bring moderation back to the position of town moderator. They know well the duties of their respective offices. As they wrestled with their individual decisions to run for office it was not until after the filing deadline had come and gone that the present slate of incumbents took off on their fickle path as if they had a mandate to do what they wanted. It was as if being unopposed for re-election emancipated them from whatever bonds that guided their "principles" prior to the deadline. As a native to the area, I urge you to come to know these dedicated individuals and vote for them by writing in their names on March 11. Moultonboro has done well, over time, with their elected officials. But there always comes a time for change; now is the time. Rick Heath Moultonboro | |
